We must acknowledge and denounce the recent increase in violent hate crimes against Asians. While this issue has gained prominence due to Covid-19, many people have come forward to remind us that these events are far from new. As a team and school that stands against injustice and hate of all kinds, we must recognize and say out loud that this will always include the treatment of Asian people. As you continue to build and reshape your classroom communities, have you educated yourself on this issue? Can you include stories of Asian joy and excellence, as well as solidarity and resistance in your conversations and content? Our students, as always, are watching what we say and how we react. Our silence is loud.
