Let’s talk about race by julius lester

Normalize talking about race. The more you practice, the more comfortable it becomes.

Imagine, if as a young child your teachers and family members talked about race, introduced diversity, and cultural awareness as casually as they talked about the weather or who won last nights game.

Imagine, the increase in empathy, inclusion, awareness, tolerance, and love for ALL people if the conversations were part of your day to day.

Imagine, the influence on future generations and society of you start today.

This is one of my favorite books to use as we honor the Native people of the land we all share.

As you talk to your kiddos about Indigenous peoples’ day, please be sure to speak in present tense.

This books uses present tense, introduces the Cherokee language, and represents such a beautiful culture without tokenizing, othering, or appropriating.

Be mindful of your impact vs. your intent when honoring this day. See the link in my bio for a quick video explaining Indigenous and providing appropriate language for your discussions.
